There is a but one issue in the Smoker v. Big Tobacco trial that launched Wednesday.

Simply put, it is: Was the smoker, the now deceased Charles Piendle, addicted to cigarettes and if so, was that addiction the legal cause of his death?

The two sides, of course, had very different answers in day-long opening statements in Piendle v. R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris as Piendle's widow seeks damages from the tobacco giants.

Friends are advising Lindsay Lohan to get rid of her tobacco habit before going to jail, as smoking is banned in the prison where she’ll serve her sentence, according to reports. New research on quitting smoking shows that genetics may play a large role in determining an individual smoker's best strategy for quitting smoking.

In a study by the Duke Center for Nicotine and Smoking Cessation Research, 520,000 individual smokers were surveyed and categorized on the basis of their dependence on nicotine and given a "quit success score" based on their answers.
